Drive and Encryption are separate solutions, therefore no changes are required to the Encryption service when upgrading Drive.

Upgrading Drive software

Upgrading Drive requires the removal of the existing software, prior to installing the new version.

Before proceeding, ensure that you are logged in to Windows with full admin rights.

It may be necessary to restart Drive during the upgrade process.

Backup the Drive folder

Take a backup of the Drive folder, which is usually located on the C:\Drive.

You may also need to reference the highlighted folders and files after an upgrade, particularly if using proxy servers to gain internet access.

Stop the Drive service

From Windows Services, stop the Drive service.

If the service is being run with a service account, note the details and ensure that you have the password for this account.

Remove the current Drive software

On Windows, using the search menu, navigate to Add or Remove Programs.
Locate Drive from the list, and select uninstall.
Check that Drive has fully uninstalled. Delete any files that are still under C:\Drive before installing the later version of the Drive software. Occasionally the log files are locked and cannot be deleted without restarting Drive.
Delete the Drive folder - C:\Drive
Ensure that the Drive service has been removed from Windows services. If it has not, delete it manually as shown below using the Command Prompt C:\>sc delete Drive

Install the new version of Drive

Follow the instructions as detailed under Installing Drive.

Settings.xml

During the installation process (when running the batch file) you may refer to the old version of settings.xml (backed up) for polling and delay intervals. See Configuration.

Proxy servers

Where you have previously been using proxy servers to gain internet access, the upgraded system may not take account of this. To resolve any connectivity issues caused by the upgrade, you can retrieve the net.properties file from the backup; and restore it over the newly installed version.

In earlier versions of Drive, the net.properties file is located at C:\Drive\jre1.7.x_xx\lib\net.properties (default location).
In later versions of Drive, the net.properties file is located at C:\Drive\jre1.11\conf\net.properties (default location).

Note
The exact path depends on installed version of Drive, which is pre-packaged with OpenJDK.

Service account

If the service was previously being run with a service account, go to the service properties and enter the account/password for that domain.

Then restart the Drive service and test importing a sample file.
